Summary

A cytochemical study of the distribution in nucleated and non-nucleated amœbæ of various cell constituents has been made. Non-nucleated halves show a steady decrease in their ribonucleic acid content, while nucleated halves retain a much larger amount of this substance during fasting. The protein content of both fragments remains identical. The digestion of fats, glycogen, and desoxyribonucleic acids occurs normally in both halves. It is concluded that the synthesis of the cytoplasmic particles containing ribonucleic acid is under nuclear control.
