Summary

In 25 dogs diuresis was investigated in the isolated in situ perfused kidney before and during intravenous infusion of mannitol.
  1. 1.

The isolated in situ perfusion was followed by a slight decrease of GFR and a significant decrease of U/P ratios from osmolarity, sodium and potassium.

  2. 2.

In the perfused kidney the application of mannit causes a marked diuresis. The increase in urinary excretion was dependent to the quantity of the perfusion volume. A perfusion with constant volume during 30 min. and continuous mannit infusion resulted in a steady increase of diuresis.

  3. 3.

In accordance with findings by other investigators these results lead to the conclusion that the mannit-induced diuresis to a great extend is related of the intrarenal redistribution of blood supply particularly that of medullary flow.
