Integumental slime and wax secretion: Defensive adaptations of sawfly larvae

Abstract

Evidence is presented from predation tests with ants (Formica exsectoides) that the slimy coating ofCaliroa cerasi and the waxy investiture ofEriocampa ovata serve in defense.
