Summary

The photosensitivity of orellanine, the main toxin ofCortinarius orellanus Fries mushrooms, and its transformation to orelline via orellinine is discussed. All three substances were found in methanolic extracts ofCortinarius orellanus andCortinarius speciossimus mushrooms. The problem of homogeneity of orellanine is also discussed.

This resolution has also been described in our first paper.7 However, at that time we believed that under the influence of hydrochloric acid orellanine splits into three compounds. Now we are aware that under such conditions it is stable, and that the three observed spots came form orellanine, marked in our previous paper7 as Or I, orellinine-Or II and orelline-Or III, the components of the unpurified, crude orellanine.Google Scholar
