Summary

Caffeic, ferulic and synapic acid are anaerobically degraded by a microbial consortium via the reduction of the double bond of the side chain, the replacement of the nuclear hydroxyl group in position 4 by hydrogen, the demolition of the side chain by the loss of a C1 unit.
