Inelastic leptoproduction ofJ/Ψ and the gluon distribution in the nucleon

Abstract

In view of the recent experimental results at CERN, we calculate exactly theQ2-dependence of the inelastic leptoproduction cross-section ofJ/Ψ. We also make predictions for the high enegy (HERA) as well as low energy (30 GeV electron beam on a fixed target) regimes. The exact calculation of theQ2-dependence of the cross-section is essential to extract the gluon distribution function from data. We find that using the exact leptoproduction cross-section amounts to increase the power in the parametrization of the gluon distribution function extracted so far in muoproduction experiments
