Schwangerschaftsmonat gegenüber den folgenden Monaten et was erhöht.
Summary
Detailed evidence is presented showing that during pregnancy the placenta is the principal source of progesterone. By the end of pregnancy the maternal organism is receiving from the placenta about 190–280 mg. progesterone every 24 hours. In order to study the production of progesterone in the placenta throughout the whole course of pregnancy, 80 placentas were examined from patients in the 2nd to 10th month. In addition, in one case the progesterone content of a hydatidiform mole was measured, in 5 cases that of the endometrium and in 10 cases that of the amniotic fluid. The progesterone from the placentas was in each case isolated, qualitatively analysed and characterised according to the method ofZander andSimmer. This method, however, was subjected to a modification, which ist described in the present report and which involved the application of Allen's correction when determining the quantity of progesterone. The studies undertaken yielded the following findings:
-
1.
Progesterone was traced in all placentas from the 2nd to 10th month of pregnancy.
-
2.
The average progesterone level for the whole placenta rises from 33.2γ in the 2nd month of pregnancy to 713.4γ in the 10th month.
-
3.
The concentration of progesterone per gramme of placental tissue is higher in the 2nd and 3rd months of pregnancy than in the following months. In the 2nd and 3rd months it averages 4.15γ per 1 g. of placental tissue. In the 4th to 10th months it varies between 1.56 and 2.26γ per g. of placental tissue.
-
4.
This would appear to indicate that — in contrast to what has previously been supposed — the placenta already plays an important role as a producer of progesterone in the first trimester of pregnancy.
-
5.
Progesterone was also found to be present in a hydatidiform mole the concentration being 1.60γ per 1 g. of tissue.
-
6.
Within the limits imposed by our method of quantitative measurement,no progesterone could be traced in the endometrium (decidua) during early pregnancy.
-
7.
In all the cases studied, progesterone was found in the amniotic fluid from the 2nd to 10th month of pregnancy. The concentration of progesterone varies between 0,50γ and 0,01γ per 1 cc. of aminotic fluid, the average concentration being 0.14γ per 1 cc.
