Abstract
We report on a novel ultrahigh-resolution neutron spectrometer utilizing the reach of the flight parabola of very slow neutrons in the earth's gravitational field for precise energy definition. A full width at half maximum of (17.0±0.6) neV was measured for elastic scattering from graphite. We were able to detect a line broadening by (6.6±3.2) neV in quasi-elastic scattering from a polymer in solution at a momentum transfer of 0.027 Å−1ħ.
