Abstract

From the absorption and emission spectra of samariumgalliumgarnet and of samarium-aluminiumgarnet (both diluted with yttrium) the crystal field levels of the⁶F and the⁶H multipletts of the Sm³⁺-ion have been deduced. The crystal field calculations showed by far better results, when using different parameters for the levels of the⁶H and the⁶F multipletts, instead of fitting them jointly.
