Chromosome size and DNA content in three species of Asteraceae-anthemideae

Summary

Cytophotometric DNA measurements have been made in three diploid species of the Anthemideae, all with the same chromosome number, but with differences in chromosome size. It is shown that the phylogenetic reduction in chromosome size is closely correlated with a reduced DNA content of diploid nuclei. The evolutionary significance of such changes is discussed.
