Low density flux fluids in high —T c superconductors: The influence of disorder

We analyze the influence of thermal and frozen-in disorder on the flux line (FL) density ρ ∞\((H - H_{c1} )^{\bar \beta } \) close to the lower critical fieldHc1. Arguments which consider the steric repulsion of fluctuating FLs give\({{\bar \beta = (d - 1)\zeta } \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {{\bar \beta = (d - 1)\zeta } {2(1 - \zeta )}}} \right. \kern-\nulldelimiterspace} {2(1 - \zeta )}}\) with ζ the roughness exponent of a single FL andd the space dimensionality. We show by a phenomenological scaling approach and a renormalization group treatment, that this is correct only fordd c =2/ζ−1, i.e. for\(\bar \beta \leqq 1\). Ford>d c the steric FL repulsion at scales more than some critical one is irrelevant and\(\bar \beta = 1\). For disordered superconductorsd c =2 and\(\bar \beta = 1\) ford=2, 3. We also found the melting line for a FL lattice in the presence of frozen-in impurities close toHc1.
