Conclusions

In the choice of the optimum grain-size composition of magnesite powders for repairing the bottoms of open-hearth furnaces using the new technology, the strength of the freely poured bed should be taken into account.

The penetration of lumps of batch into the bed is determined by the content in the magnesite powder of the fractions finer than 0.1 mm and larger than 3 mm, and also by the mass and contact surface between the lumps and the bed of powder.
