Scanning electron microscopic study on experimental extrahepatic bile duct obstruction

Summary

Micromorphologic alteration due to experimental, extrahepatic obstruction of the common bile duct was studied in rabbits with the help of scanning electron microscopic examinations. Even in mild stenosis cases disaggregation of the epithelium of the bile duct was found in addition to islets of defects and enhanced deposition of mucus and amorphous material. In the dilated bile canaliculi, flattening and planting of microvili as well as sacculation were observed. Microvili only remain in the marginal ridge of the hepatocytes. Retrograde perforation of bile canaliculi into the space of Dissé could be demonstrated and thus the direct opening between sinusoidal surface and biliary tract.

Zusammenfassung

Rasterelektronenmikroskopisch wurden mikromorphologische Veränderungen bei experimentellen, extrahepatischen Gallenwegsstenosen am Kaninchen untersucht. Selbst bei geringgradiger Stenosierung kommt es zur Disaggregation des Gallenwegepithels mit inselförmigen Defekten, vermehrter Schleimproduktion und Ablagerung amorpher Substanzen. An den erweiterten Gallencapillaren fällt eine Abstumpfung der Mikrovili auf, die nur mehr im Marginalsaum erhalten bleiben. Schließlich bilden sich divertikelartige Sacculi. Es konnte ferner die retrograde Perforation der Gallencapillaren in den Disséschen Raum und damit die direkte Verbindung zwischen Sinusoid und Gallenwegssystem nachgewiesen werden.
