A reassessment of rhodizonic acid as a qualitative reagent

Rhodizonic acid has been re-examined as a qualitative reagent, and it has been shown that it will react with many metals to give characteristic spectra if the dielectric constant of the solvent is sufficiently low and if a protective colloid is added. The range of application of rhodizonic acid has been considerably extended in this way.
