Synthesis, properties, and thermal decomposition of aminoguanidinium hyponitrate

Conclusions

  1. 1.

    A method has been developed for the preparation of aminoguanidinium hyponitrate by the reaction of hydroxylamine with ethyl nitrate in the presence of aminoguanidine in absolute ethanol solution.

  2. 2.

    Under isothermal conditions at 45–75‡ aminoguanidinium hyponitrate decomposes rapidly following the law of second-order autocatalysis.

  3. 3.

    Possible routes for the decomposition of the salt have been proposed which are in accordance with the data on the composition of the decomposition products.
