Hydrolytic reactions in polyvalent cation zeolites

Conclusions

  1. 1.

Pyridine adsorbed on hydrated NdNaX and NdNaY zeolites is partially hydrolyzed. At optimal concentrations of neodymium, pyridine, and water, the number of pyridine ions is close to the number of rare-earth cations, and may even exceed it. Replacement of the pyridine of the cation internal coordination sphere by water increases the degree of hydrolysis of the pyridine and rare-earth cations.

  2. 2.

Arguments are advanced to support the contention that a dynamic aqua-hydroxyl equilibrium is established in hydrated LnX and LnY zeolites carrying adsorbed pyridine, and in LnX and LnY zeolites which have been dehydrated by vacuum heating.
