CIDNP study of the mechanism of the photodecomposition of 3-oxobutyltrimethyltin

    The photodecomposition of 3-oxobutyltrimethyltin proceeds with breakage of the C-Sn bond and formation of radicals. Formation of a triplet radical pair of trimethylstannyl and 2-oxobutyl radicals occurs in decane and acetonitrile. A singlet radical pair of trichloromethyl and 2-oxobutyl radicals is formed in CCl4 Both these mechanisms occur in CHCl3.

    3-Oxobutyltrimethyltin coordinates with the solvent in CCl4 and CDCl3.
