The possibility of implementing the method of plastic compression of long cylinders using supporting elements is substantiated. Relationships for calculating the limiting geometric parameters of compressible rods and the supporting pressure required to upset the specimens in a linear stress state are obtained. An example is cited for the calculation of the taper angle of the sectors used in the apparatus as supporting elements. The results of comparison of the compression and tension diagrams suggest sufficient accuracy of experimental data obtained using the indicated apparatus; this enables us to recommend it for investigation of the plastic properties of materials.
