Experimental investigation of the stress system in the region of a crack

    There is practically no disturbance of the stress at a distance equal to the crack diameter.

  2. 2.

    In the region of sharp cracks, narrow stress distortion regions are observed; they form an angle of 30–35° with the crack plane.

  3. 3.

    During the period of rupture of transparent bodies by a laser beam the tangential stresses are insignificant, being above one order smaller than the ultimate strength of the material.
