Abstract

Analytic expressions are derived for the rate constants of some two-quantum photochemical reactions. The limits of application of the approximations are discussed. It is shown that the quantum yield in two-photon sensitization (second photon absorbed by a molecule in a triplet state) is independent of the sensitizer when the substrate concentration is high. The concept of quantum yield for a nonlinear reaction is discussed.
