Synthesis and complex-forming properties of alkylendiaminodiarylphosphonous and phosphonic acids

Conclusions

  1. 1.

    Complexones containing phosphonous groups and the analogous complexones containing phosphonic groups were synthesized: ethylendiaminobisbenzyl- and ethylendiaminobis-o-hydroxybenzylphosphonous and ethylendiaminobis-o-hydroxybenzylphosphonic acids.

  2. 2.

    The dissociation constants of the indicated acids, as well as those of ethylendiaminobisbenzylphosphonic acid and the stability constants of their complexes with a number of transition metals were determined.

  3. 3.

    The complex-forming ability of the phosphonous group is less than that of the phosphonic group.

  4. 4.

    The introduction of supplementary chelate groups in the case of aminophosphonic acids only slightly increases the complex-forming ability of the compounds, while in the case of aminophosphonous acids it leads to a substantial increase in it with respect to individual cations, and consequently, to an increase in the selectivity of the action.
