A xylene electrolyte modified by trimethylchlorosilane for electrodeposition of aluminium

The addition of 2–5 vol % of trimethylchlorosilane to a 2m solution of AlBr3 in xylene gives a very convenient aluminium electroplating bath. Tendency to dendritic growth ceases and the quality of aluminium improves. Electrodeposition proceeds with high cathodic efficiency. The additive has extended the use of the electrolyte up to 1 year.
