For the complexes of benzyltrifluoromethylmercury with various solvents the electron-donor activity of these solvents correlates with the J (Hg199-C-H1) constant.
The J (Hg199-C-F19) constant for solutions of BzHgCF3 in these solvents is determined by the different ratio of theσ-(valence) andπ-(steric) contributions, and consequently does not characterize the change in the electron-donor activity of the solvents.
