Interpretation of overtone light-absorption lines in polystyrene

The intensities of the overtone vibrational transitions of a C-H oscillator are calculated using the Morse potential. The local-mode theory enabled comparison of the data obtained with the experimentally observed intensities of the light-absorption lines in substituted styrenes and complete identification of the spectrum of overtone transitions in them.
