Ferrocenecarboxylic acid and its methyl ester were sulfonated. It was shown that sulfonation occurs in the unsubstituted ring of ferrocene.
Various derivatives of 1′-sulfo-1-ferrocenecarboxylic acid were prepared and described.
Determination of the dissociation constants of ferrocenecarboxylic acids containing substituents confirmed our previous conclusion  concerning the effective transmission of the mutual effect of substituents from one ring of the ferrocene molecule to the other.
