Luminescence accompanying the crystallization of organic substances: uranin, eosin, 9,10-dibromoanthracene, benzanilide, and benz-p-iodoanilide, was detected.
The crystal luminescence spectrum of benzanilide coincides with the photoluminescence spectrum and characterizes the levels of the crystal. The quantum yield of the crystal luminescence of benzanilide is 10−13-10−4.
It was hypothesized that the source of energy of excitation is the collective event of simultaneous liberation of energy of sublimation of several molecules. An additional source may be the energy of conversion of the imine form of benzanilide to the amide form.
