Calculation of equilibrium deformations of light nuclei and rare-earth nuclei is carried out by a method suggested in . For light nuclei an anisotropic oscillator potential is used, while for the rare-earth domain we employ Nilsson's potential . An isospin dependence of the oscillator frequencies is employed. The results agree qualitatively with calculations made according to Strutinsky's method .
