Abstract
A review of experimental investigations into the interaction of cracks with intergranular boundaries and threefold boundary joints is presented. Irreversible phenomena accompanying the breakdown of such barriers are considered. The mode of propagation of fast cracks in sodium chloride bicrystals is analyzed.
