Deformation of a rib joined to a fiberglass casing when exposed to local stresses

Abstract

The deformation of a rib joined to an orthotropic casing and exposed to a normal stress is investigated. The problem is solved by means of a semi-moment-free casing theory, taking into account shear deformation. Equations for bending moments and radial deflections in the rib are developed. Experimental verification of the functions obtained is in good agreement with the calculated results. The experiments were carried out on a casing with R/r=60.
