Reaction of cyclobutylcarbinol-1-13C with hydrochloric acid and Lucas reagent

    The sole product of the reactions of cyclobutylcarbinol with hydrochloric acid and with Lucas reagent is cyclopentyl chloride.

    By employing13C it was shown that cyclopentyl chloride undergoes isomerization due to hydride shifts.
