Peroxymercuration of olefins and cyclopropanes

Conclusions

  1. 1.

    Olefins and cyclopropanes react with mercuric acetate and aqueous hydrogen peroxide to respectively giveβ- andγ-mercurated hydroperoxides in good yield.

  2. 2.

    The indicated compounds are inclined toward fragmentation reaction with the formation of carbonyl compounds.
