We studied the substitution reactions of decaborane complexes of acetonitrile, triethylarsine, dimethyl-formamide, triethyl phosphite, triphenyl phospite, trithioethyl phosphite and dibutyl phenylphosphinate by various electron donor compounds such as triethyl phosphite, triphenyl phosphite, trithioethyl phosphite, dimethyIformamide, dibutyl phenylphosphinate, triphenylphosphine and triethylamine.
We propose the following expanded series of electron donor compounds arranged in the order of their increasing ability to displace each other from decaborane complexes of the type B10H12[X]2:(CH3)2S < CH3CN < (C2H5)2NCN < (C2H5 3As=(C2H5S3P=HCON(CH3)2=CH3CON(CH3)2 < P(OC2H5 3=C6H5P(OC4H9)2=(C6H5O)3P= P(C6H5)3=N(C2H5)3=C5H5N.
