Preparation of L- and D-3-phenyllactic acids and some of their derivatives

  1. 1.

    Two methods were developed for the preparation of the optically active 3-phenyllactic acids: resolution of racemic 3-phenyllactic acid, and the conversion of L-phenylalanine into L-3 phenyllactic acid.

  2. 2.

    A number of derivatives of L- and D-3-phenyllactic acids were prepared which can serve as intermediaries in the synthesis of depsipeptides containing optically active 3-phenyllactic acid residues.
