Conclusions
- 1.
Under fixed temperature conditions in an engine, piston fouling with varnish deposits depends on the amount of oil impinging on the parts of the cylinder-piston group. In the PZV unit, the primary parameters governing the amount of oil impinging on the piston are the engine speed and the oil level in the engine crankcase.
- 2.
In evaluating the detergency of additive oils in the PZV unit, it is desirable to run the tests at 980 rpm instead of 2500 rpm, since the lower-speed operation gives a more reliable classification of oils with various additives, eliminates excessive noise in operation of the unit, and lengthens the engine life.
