Conclusions

  1. 1.

The fracture toughness of high-strength steels after tempering at low temperatures is increased by alloying with ∼4% Ni, Cr, and Cu, and also 1%W, 1.6% Si, and 2% Co. Alloying with molybdenum impairs the fracture toughness.

  2. 2.

The resistance to fracture of high-strength steel depends to a considerable extent on structural factors — the size of martensite crystals and the evenness of carbon distribution in microvolumes of the martensite.
