Temperature-time ranges of aging of alloy AK6

Conclusions
- 1.
Zone aging occurs when alloy AK6 is heated for several thousand hours at 20–70°C. Zone aging, mixed aging, phase aging, and coalescence occur at 125–195°C. With increasing aging temperature from 125 to 195° the length of each stage and the total aging time decrease.
- 2.
With the transition from zone to phase aging the ultimate strength rises from 44 to 49 kg/mm2, the yield strength from 29 to 43 kg/mm2, σ0.2/σb from 0.60 to 0.85, and there is a decrease of the stress corrosion resistance and elongation. In the coalescence stage the corrosion resistance increases and the strength characteristics decrease.
We propose new aging conditions for alloy AK6: artificial zone aging at 90°C for 3–5 h and artificial phase aging at 175°C for ∼6 h.
