Abstract

Surface waters were sampled during 1977 – 1992, 2 to 12 occasions per year. Perches (Perca fluviatilis) were caught at five occasions, two of them before the first liming in September 1981.

pH-values varied between 5.2 and 6.3 before liming and between 5.8 and 7.6 after. The Cd-concentrations in water varied between 0.02 and 0.40 ug/L before and between 0.01 and 0.25 ug/L after liming. These values still reflect elevated concentrations during high runoff and at turnover periods, but correspond to a three-fold decrease after timing.

Perches weighing 200 g had lower Cd-concentrations in livers than those weighing 50 g. Cd-concentrations decreased clearly after timing in the small fishes. Matching changes in the big fishes could be noted 4 years later. The dry weight of perch livers increased after liming and was positively correlated to water pH and contributed to the decreased Cdconcentrations. The amount of Cd in perch livers decreased more slowly and moderately than the Cd concentrations, indicating both a pH and a Cd-dose regulation of Cd i livers.
