Morphologic evidence of a diffusion barrier of the vestibular perilymphatic space
Summary
A study of the chinchilla inner ear by use of the freezefracture method. Between the flat and extended perilymphatic cells near to the bone there were demonstrated junctional complexes closing the intercellular space; maculae communicantes connect these cells. In comparison to similar studies of the cochlear perilymphatic tissue and the arachnoidea these structures confirm the cochlear perilymphatic barrier — as described before — and they are considered as part of the arachnoidea, which is continuated in both areas of the inner ear.
