The reconstructive laryngectomy after Staffieris technique; New method of voice rehabilitation
Summary
In 1970 Staffieri performed a total laryngectomy with reconstruction of a ‘glottis phonatoria’. Since 1 year this operation is also used in the ENT-clinic of Mainz University.
Firstly the technique is described in detail.
Reconstructive laryngectomy is indicated:
- 1.
For all carcinomas of the larynx which are incurable with Cobalt-60-irradiation or partial resection.
- 2.
The reconstructive laryngectomy is also used if the carcinoma has involved the superior hypopharynx in a not too high extent. Contraindication is the retrocricoidal carcinoma.
