The incidence of maxillary sinusitis in patients with Menière's disease

Summary

Out of a group of 64 patients with Menière's disease, which underwent a neurotological examination, more than 40% showed roentgenological signs of maxillary sinusitis, but there was no ipsilateral correlation of both diseases. In a control group of patients, suffering from otosclerosis or trauma, there was only a low incicende of occult sinusitis. Repeatedly a striking recovery from the symptoms of Menière's disease was observed after a rhinosurgical intervention with cleaning of the sinuses. The consequent rhinological examination, including X-ray pictures, of all patients with labyrinthine disorders is emphasized.
