Abstract

A comparison is given of the influence of thermal noise on the accuracy of commonly used types of balances, viz. the critically damped balance, the automatic balance and the undamped balance.

This treatise centres upon the possible importance of the nanogram region in the near future.

The conclusion is that thermal noise will not jeopardise the realisation of nanogram balances.
