Obere grenzen von flora und vegetation in der nivalstufe der zentralen ötztaler alpen (tirol)

The authors give a short introduction into the geological und climatical conditions of their area of investigation. As a criterion to characterize the “Nivalstufe” (nivale zone) they not as usual use the climatical limit of the perpetual snow but the more natural limit of the alpine pioneer grass heath in the height. As the most important types of vegetation are reported: the Curvuletum, Elynetum, snowbeds, cushion plants, rock- and scree vegetation. In a table they compare the appearance of 104 vascular plants growing above 3000 m in the Tyrolian (Ötztaler) alps with those of the western alps.
