Microangiographic filling of the Vascular system of the Brain

The effect of varying the following parameters of the microangiographic perfusion technique of vascular filling of the rat brain was studied: perfusion time, pressure, concentration of barium sulphate suspension, temperature and heparinization. The results were evaluated by visual study of thick section microangiograms and by direct calculation of the capillary cross sections in the same specimen. The results show that prolonged perfusion with a dilute suspension does not improve perfusion to any significant extent at the capillary level. The best results were shown after 15 min perfusion with a 25% suspension, although over 50% of the capillaries were never properly filled.


A l'aide de la technique de perfusion microangiographique, les auteurs ont étudié les effets de la variation des paramètres suivants sur le remplissage vasculaire du cerveau chez le rat: temps de perfusion, pression, concentration de la suspension de sulfate de barium, température et héparinisation. Les résultats furent évalués par l'étude d'épaisses tranches de microangiogramme et par calcul direct des diamètres sur la même pièce. Les résultats montrèrent que la perfusion prolongée 3 l'aide d'une suspension diluée n'améliore pas de façon significative la perfusion au niveau capillaire. Les meilleurs résultats furent obtenus après quinze minutes de perfusion avec une suspension à 25%, bien que plus de 50% des capillaires n'étaient jamais correctement remplis.


Die Gefäßfüllung durch mikroangiographische Perfusionstechnik wurde am Rattenhirn in ihrer Abhängigkeit von folgenden Parametern untershcht: Perfusionszeit, Perfusionsdruck, Konzentration der Barium-Sulfat-Lösung, Temperatur, Heparinisierung. Die Ergebnisse wurden durch optische Untersuchung der Mikroangiogramme und durch Bestimmung der Anzahl der Gefäßquerschnitte am gleichen Untersuchungsobjekt ausgewertet. Es zeigt sich, daß eine langdauernde Perfusion mit verdünnter Lösung die Perfusion des Kapillar-Bereiches nicht signifikant steigert. Die besten Resultate fanden sich nach einer Perfusionsdauer von 15 min mit einer 25% igen Barium-Sulfat-Lösung, obwohl mehr als die Hälfte der Kapillaren keine geeignete Kontrastnittel-Füllung zeigte.
