Vegetative propagation of Beta vulgaris by leaf cuttings with axillary buds

Summary

In leaf cuttings with a short piece of hypocotyl tissue axillary bud development was poor. Most cuttings with a long piece of hypocotyl tissue developed into plants. The latter type enabled vegetative propagation of various genotypes.
