Effect of photoperiod on the growth of Azolla pinnata R. brown

Abstract

Photoperiod has a profound effect on the growth of Azolla pinnata. Fresh mass, dry mass and moisture content were maximum in 12 h and minimum in 0 h (dark) photoperiod. Frond colour, root characteristics and sporocarp production were also affected under different treatments. The plants were capable of growing under continuous illumination and unnatural photoperiods.
