Summary
Rhizobium leguminosarum, strain PRE, is unable to use sulphate as the sulphur source. Sulfhydryl compounds must be added to achieve growth.
Omission of FeCl3 from the synthetic growth medium resulted in a sharp decrease in growth of this Rhizobium strain as contrasted to other strains of R. leguminosarum. The pyrimidine bases uracil and cytosine could replace FeCl3. Thymine almost completely inhibited bacterial growth. Adenine and guanine showed no effect. re]19760809
