Revamping the crane electric drive

Abstract

Traditional means of generating starting and braking torques and limiting currents of induction motors with wound rotors is incorporation of additional resistors in the rotor circuit that are gradually removed during motor acceleration. Simplified electric drives are used in inductive resistance units (chokes) added to the induction motor rotor circuit. The design of the choke and the mechanical characteristics of the choke electric drive are considered. Control of phase speed and torque control is done using thyristor controllers. Functional diagrams and mechanical characteristics are given that provide a clear idea of the properties of the considered drives used in transport and lifting crane gear.
