Evolution of views on mechanisms of friction in liquids

Abstract

The Lindemann and Frenkel mechanisms of melting, as well as the Bachinsky, Frenkel, and Eyring molecular mechanisms of liquid friction, have been reviewed. The conclusion is drawn that no impartial theories of melting and flow have yet been developed.
