Mechanism of the wear of tool tapers in milling machines

Abstract

The results of experiments that show that the wear of tool tapers in milling machines strongly influences the dynamic flexibility of the spindle-tool system and reduces the reliability of machines with respect to the parameters of roughness of the machined surface have been presented. A scheme that explains the mechanism of the wear of tool tapers from the standpoint of material fatigue under the action of cyclic stresses has been proposed. Calculations according to this scheme have been performed that confirm the results of experiments.
