Abstract
A study is performed of the wide-angle geometry of acousto-optic interaction in a mercury bromide crystal. Conditions of the simultaneous diffraction of both eigenmodes of the crystal into opposite orders of diffraction are found. It is shown that the geometry of interaction remains unchanged in the spectral range of 3–30 µm. The obtained results make it possible to create an acousto-optical filter for infrared radiation with arbitrary polarization.
